An escorte femme is a person, usually female but sometimes male, who accompanies another person to an event for protection, guidance, or courtesy. The term is also used in some countries as a euphemism for a prostitute.
There is abundant evidence that men prefer young, attractive women as short-term mating partners and that prostitution is a form of short-term mating. In order to maximize their short-term mating opportunities, females might display their beauty and eroticism by advertising online and by providing sexual services for hire. This study examined online advertisements posted by escorts and analyzed the relationship between their advertised metrics and their price charged for sexual services. The results showed that female escorts increase their demand by using their photographs to highlight their physical attributes and erotic body parts. They also use flirting and eroticism to attract potential clients and by promoting their sexual experience and the extent to which they can satisfy a man’s fantasies.

The vast majority of men hiring an escort are seeking simple companionship. They might want to relax with a nice dinner or to go shopping with the escort, or they may simply be looking to scratch an itch for intimacy and romance.
In this study, the photographs posted by escorts were coded as to whether they showed nude breasts or buttocks and whether the escort had contact information (e.g., phone, e-mail address). The data were collected using a program that automatically downloaded and coded each ad over a four-week period, which saved time and effort that would have been necessary if each advertisement had to be manually coded by hand.
Future research should investigate whether additional physical (e.g., facial attractiveness, ethnicity) and behavioral (e.g., exclusivity of clientele and girlfriend/pornstar experience) characteristics displayed in online escort ads correlate with their prices charged for sexual services. It should also assess the characteristics that men possess that influence their short-term mating strategies and that may be related to the solicitation of online escorts.
